Importance of Effective Communication in the Workplace
Communication shows a more important part in our day-to-day lives and yet the art of communication at work remains a riddle to some. But if you cannot communicate well, you could be eliminating your chance of securing the job of your dreams, closing a life-changing deal, or advancing in your profession. For some, good communication comes naturally, but for others, expressing their opinions and feelings in conversation can be difficult, often leading to conflict and fundamental errors.
Therefore, whether you are an effective communicator or not, it is essential to understand the importance of good communication and how it can help you get ahead in the world of work.
All organizations rely on communication for their basic functioning. Communication is used to transfer information to their audience about the organization’s mission and vision, policies, and procedures, tasks and duties, and various activities within the company (Farmer, Slater, & Wright, 1998).
Effective communication in the workplace is an integral element of business success; It enhances relationships within the company and with customers, and it increases employee engagement and a team's overall effectiveness.
Research by US firm Gartner suggests that 70% of business mistakes are caused by poor communication. This statistic proves how important communication is to on-the-job training and why future emphasis should be placed on clear instructions and dialogue to prevent mistakes from occurring within the workplace.
